Randy Lopez

He was born in Tangier (Morocco) when he arrived in Córdoba he rediscovered the roots of his ancestors and in his head began to produce the magical mixture of Arabic and Andalusian music with the best hard rock of the seventies.
Together with three friends, José Rafa Garcia, Rafael Zorrilla “Pelucas” and Francisco López “Roscka”, EXPRESION forms a progressive rock band that would later become MEZQUITA pioneers of flamenco progressive rock.
At the end of the seventies a movement called “Andalusian rock” was born in our country formed by a series of groups that experiment with sounds of the land, particularly flamenco and Arabic-Andalusian melodies that mix with jazz, rock and even salsa or Celtic or American folk, MEZQUITA were pioneers of this movement and undoubtedly the most rockers. Two Lps. And four singles, for the historic label “Chapa” de Zafiro produced by the legendary Vicente “Mariskal” Romero are the musical legacy of MEZQUITA.
Years later he joined MEDINA AZAHARA, a band with which he remained for nine long and productive years, composing much of the best material of the band: (Navajas de cartón, El soldado , Velocidad etc …) in addition to playing bass, harmonica and backing vocals. Then, he participates in the Andalusian Symphonic Musical “WALLADA, EL SUEÑO DE UN POETA CORDOBES” as a composer, bassist and singer. He collaborates in the recording of several albums: ONZA, SHERISH or PERIPLO, among other progressive rock projects.
It is in 2011 when it coincides with José Gutiérrez and they decide that Randy López’s career must be launched solo with new songs, after some concerts they get into the studio for what will be the first solo album of RANDY LOPEZ,
Since then they have toured throughout the country and released four albums: “Trece” (G.ArtProducciones 2013), “Born in the twentieth century” (Avispa 2015), “Al sur” (G. ArtProducciones 2017) which includes a DVD recorded live in Seville, the Teatro de TRIANA and “Apocalipsis?” (5 Lunas Productions 2022).
In 2018, MEZQUITA, reunites and gives several concerts achieving the success they expected. In 2019, together with original members of MEDINA AZAHARA, they decided to make the group EX MEDINA to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the group and remember those great songs that stopped playing live.
His latest album “Apocalypse?” has attracted a lot of attention for its theme, those daring lyrics and that powerful sound that confirm the evolution of Randy’s music. His extensive experience and the ease of adaptation to the times, make the composition, the progressive concept of his music and the sound of this new album is obtaining great successes.
